Summertime Blues

Published by at 10:45 am under Around the Office

I had forgotten what a productivity killer summer is around here. And not in a fun, playing-hookie-at-the-beach kind of way. I’m talking thunderstorms that rumble and boom for three hours running, during which electronics can not be plugged in.

Funny story…. when we moved here, twelve years ago this month, we moved in on a Friday, and spent the first weekend setting up the computers, running a couple hundred feet of cable so that all three work machines could be connected. Plugged in the fax, the phones, etc. Spent two days getting it all set up. A thunderstorm came through on that Sunday evening, and lightning came in through the phone, blew up the phone, the fax, the modem in my computer, ran through the couple hundred feet of cable, burning ot all up, and frying the network cards in all in three computers. Electrical storms have killed a couple more phones, faxes, and network cards in the intervening twelve years, so we play it pretty smart these days and unplug when the rumbling gets close. (Or, you know, when ever we leave the building from May-October).

Anyway – there was no beast blog on Friday, because it stormed most of the afternoon and evening. Maybe next week. :)
